So the landscape season is approaching here in beautiful Ohio and we would like to help you find the right landscaper for your property. This time of year, lawn care and landscape service providers are coming out of the woodwork by the dozens.
Not all landscaping companies are the same. Since you want only the best for your home and family, it’s important to evaluate the landscape companies in your area and make an informed decision. There are many factors to be aware of, such as the type of chemicals the landscaper uses, the continued education provided for employees and a highly specialized team that won’t let you down.
The last thing we want to see is any of our customers, friends or family get taken advantage of by a "landscape company" who guarantees the lowest prices. Don't worry because not all landscapers out there are unqualified. Here are a few tips to help you find out if you are getting ready to hire a "fly-by-night" who will be here today and gone with your money tomorrow:
1. Marketing with "We beet ANY competitors prices."
2. No website with contact information.
3. No BBB credit or record on file.
4. Asks for more than 30% down on projects.
5. If they can't name half of the plants in your landscape.
If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Remember that when hiring a landscape provider you are paying for a service. It is very hard to compare service providers in this industry. Unlike buying a new car. You can compare apples to apples. Unfortunately with landscape and lawn care services, it is more like comparing apples to onions.
Each landscape company may do something different. For example when doing a spring clean up Turf Masters Landscape has a 10 point service check list that is used on every spring clean-up customers property. This 10 point check list covers the services that will be provided such as; edge all landscape beds 2 inches deep and string trim the edge to create a nice crisp 90 degree angle. We also will inspect all trees under 15 feet and plants for diseases, stress and damage. We also will trim low hanging branches from trees. The check list also includes for us to inspect the drain tiles from down spouts in the landscape beds, and if needed add an extension to prevent mulch wash out. Who wants to see their investment in mulch wash into your lawn and driveway? We didn't think so.
I can recall a customer who decided last year to hire a different landscape service provider that was 15% lower. This customer had received service from Turf Masters for about 3 years. So she was used to the attention to detail and the regular communication between our staff and herself. It was only 2 months later when our phone rang and on the other line we the customer saying, "I really hope its not to late to be put on your route. I really made a bad choice." Fortunately for the customer we were able to help. Unfortunately the company she hired did a number on her landscape. We had to create a new service plan to help fix the mess the last company made. Things like trimming the plants too hard, spraying for weeds in beds with the wrong chemical that spread into her lawn and killed her lawn as well as killing some of her landscape. The company also spot sprayed for weeds in the lawn using a weed and grass killer that left her lawn looking like a dot-to-dot puzzle we would do as a child. The moral to the story is that when a company guarantees to beet all prices they may not always deliver the quality you deserve. She simply thought she could save 15% per year, but actually ended up spending hundreds more.
Your lawn and landscape is a huge investment and shouldn't be given to the one man operation that doesn't really exist. If you would ever like to have a second look or opinion by a professional landscape and lawn service provider that is here to stay. Then be sure to contact Turf Masters Landscape for your next project. We would love to help and would love to have you join our family of customers.
